 D1: Arrival in Nicaragua


You are welcomed at the doors of the airport. Managua is the active heart of the country, located at the southern edge of the lake which bears the same name. Transfer to the hotel for a welcome cocktail whilst listening to recommendations from your guide.

 D2: Managua Express – Leon, Ascent of Telica Volcano.


A very brief tour of Managua, then transfer to Leon. Prepare to start an intensive 4-day trek. Climb the Telica volcano – pack mules carrying our tents, mattresses, the barbecue and campfire.

 D3: Telica Crater / Descent / Cerro Negro


4am. Climb up the Telica Crater. Daybreak, then the descent to the camp for the 8am departure – Lunch at San Jacinto. Transfer in vehicles to San Jacinto – Malpaisillo -> Comarca Rota. Continue on to Cerro Negro in the North, 4 hours (2pm to 6 pm) – see the sunset before descending in a few minutes by walking, or jumping through the sand. Transfer 7km to a Gite for our stopover.Dinner cooked or local Chef accompanying.

 D4: A Suite of Volcanoes – Las Pilas-El Hoyo Volcano – and Laguna del Tigre


Departure from Cerro Negro – walk to the top of the Las Pilas and El Hoyo volcanoes – Come back down for a swim in the Laguna del Tigre. Lunch in Puerto Momotombo. Brief visit to the ruins of Old León, if we have time. Walk (2h): climb up to the intermediate camp with pack mules or by vehicle (carrying tents, mattresses, water, food).

 D5: Climbing Momotombo Volcano


Momotombo Volcano is active and is practically bathing in Lake Managua. Early in the morning we start the ascent to the summit. The paths of volcanic sand and rocks are extremely steep (45 ° angles), and do not make for an easy walk. The climb is difficult but the views it offers are well worth the physical effort. Its sharp, pointed summit crater normally offers spectacular views around steaming fumaroles. Stunning views of Lake Managua, the Pacific Ocean, the cities of Leon, Managua and Granada! Descent to the camp where we find our car and then back to Leon.

 D6: Tour of Leon – then Artisanal Workshops – El Congo Reserve


Tour of Leon, on the roofs of the cathedral, the buzzing market and other interesting places. Check out at 11am. On the way, visit craft workshops depending on the season: whether it’s a traditional brick factory, a straw ranch or a sugar cane mill. Stop at Quesillos La Paz Centro for a tasting. Have a rest at a comedor (a community restaurant) in Jinotepe. Hit the road to El Congo. Enjoy a walking tour of the reservation and an agro-forestry-pastoral operation – a path full of monkeys.

 D7: El Congo Farm and Ometepe Island


Milk cows in a traditional way. Typical breakfast. Tour of the facilities and possibly try some activities with dairy products from the farm. Hit the road to San Jorge. Boat at 11am. Lunch at Finca Magdalena. Brief visit to the petroglyphs. Then visit Istian by Kayak: it’s a kind of freshwater swamp or mangrove, one of a kind and uniting the two volcanoes on the island. Observe nature, waders, caimans, have a swim when you return.

Note: Spend the night at the farmhouse.

 D8: Ascent to the Crater of one of the 2 Volcanos on the Island.


(Ascend to the summit of Maderas or Concepción, your choice being based on the season). With a local guide from the hamlet, you set off for the day either for the full hike or else halfway up the active volcano, to the beauty spots, where you can see a panoramic view of the vast lake and its surrounding areas (for the summit, allows 8 hours or 9 hours of walking).

 D9: Canopy Tour – Transfer to Mombacho Volcano.


After a zip line or canopy tour in the air, on the flanks of the powerful Concepción volcano, we board a boat to reach San Jorge port at around 10-11h. Transfer to Mombacho volcano near the colonial town of Granada. Climb in 4×4 shuttle to the top of the volcano in a cloud forest. Hike along El Puma trail (4h) descend and transfer to Nicaragua Libre agricultural farm.

 D10: Water-walk int the Crater Apoyo Lagoon.


After breakfast We saddle our horses, heading an extinct volcano and its blue lagoon. Trip on horseback (1h30 hour) under hundred-year-old trees, conserved at the foot of the volcano above small orchards and humble cottages, until we reach a farm. Typical lunch before starting a beautiful aquatic walk in the clear water of Apoyo lagoon. Nice dinner and overnight at the hotel in huts along the water where we wait for our luggage.

 D11: Walk in a Tropical Dry Forest and visit the Artisans’ Villages.


Hiking in the tropical dry forest of the Apoyo crater to climb from the lagoon to the beautiful viewpoint of Diriomito and Catarina. Lunch in front of a breathtaking panorama. Then, ever on foot, walk along the Railroad Track to the villages of Catarina and San Juan de Oriente. Visit the ARTISANS. Continue by minibus to Masaya, a picturesque central square, the colonial bustling streets and malls. Popular market. Then transfer to the Masaya Volcano and National Park. Cross the old lava flows and visit the volcanology centre, tunnel washing, craters by day and by night . Return to Granada at 20h .

 D12: Granada Colonial City


Visit Granada – City tour in carriage and walk – A HAVEN OF PEACE, with its SEASIDE and COLONIAL charm. Visit Granada’s spice and fruits market – Visit the bell towers of the cathedral and of the Merced church to capture “postcard” photos on the tile roofs and flowered patios – pm : Visit the Archipelago of Isletas . 300 islands forming a maze of jungle and water – free time after the end of the afternoon to stroll around the town.

 D13: Leaving Nicaragua


Transfer to national airport.
